  1. It doesn't really matter that it is specifically Facebook but that cocoon & comment type social-networking system is not what a "forum" should be, or at least I don't think many of us started forums with that mentality nor will IPB win any battle with that type of service. I'm all for cherry picking good ideas and adding them if they work with the forum concept or lead to enhancing it. Login with your Facebook / twitter info? Sure why not , just makes it easier to login. Allow easier integration with the social networks to "advertize" your forum? Sure why not? But morphing the whole thing into a cocoon type system is , while perhaps "popular" missing the forum discussion concept. I agree with you on the specific point your making here, but forum software is not social networking software per se. Its a different market/idea. I do not get the impression from the way the "forum' software is morphing INTO a facebook-like entity, not just "taking some really good / desired" features and integrating them, which at least for many of us is what we want "a discussion forum" not a "Miniature facebook system". First half of this quote covers it although I wouldn't quite go as far as to say Facebook-type discussions and forum-type discussions are mutually exclusive (they do share some similarities) but they are very different and "diluting" the forum concept by slowly morphing it into a poor-excuse for Facebook is not the way to go. To restate: taking some "good features" that lend to easier promotion / facilitation of forum-style open discussions from facebook and other such places? Absolutely. Try to turn forums INTO such entities is the bad move.
  2. Wow, you mean it doesn't work that way already? Yikes. And I wasn't happy with "just accepting" being good enough (I want it to be tied to them actually POSTING say 50 posts before they count.) otherwise 1. your "counting" no one really. 2. the system can easily be abused.
  3. Really would like to buy this mod, but my long-time custom (bad) system has to continue, my home made system is crappy but has the key feature I need , as people just "signing on" doesnt mean anything to me, they need to be "counted" only when they post a significant (say 50) amount of posts. Really wish this mod had that feature would be much better for me to use this, but if i install this mod I'd have to use BOTH systems, which would make it too much of a headache. =(
  4. Just installed. Seems to work good. Very nice. =) Is there a way to put a small space between the icons like 1-2 pixels?
  5. I'm not sure there was trouble, was just reading that from the previous posts, just a little nervous about installing it due to comments above. =)
  6. Will this also show secondary group icons? So in a users posts if they beloing to multiple groups. and the groups have icons will it show them all?
  7. I have seen several grammar errors in the screen shots , but I have not installed the mod yet so maybe they are already corrected. I would be happy to help with the language. I'm really looking forward to using this mod. (If the above change is possible?)
  8. Hello, I am VERY interested in this type of mod. But, I have a question about an update , if it is possible / if it is hard I could pay for it (in addtion to the normal cost). I have made my own (very simple) referral system were when users register they just put in the name of who refered them in a custom field. Then i run an SQL query to return all the information. BUT, I don't "count" any new referral as "really a new member" until they have made at least 50 posts, (just someone that signs up but never posts = nothing to me) and the referrer doesn't get credit for this new person until the new person has made 50+ posts, is there a way to have this done in this mod? Is that a difficult change?
  9. Mod seems to be working good. Just as a suggestion for the future it would REALLY make the thing more "alive" if people could leave comments in their pins. Most of the older member maps that I've used had this and it just makes the whole thing feel more personal.
  10. This is EXACTLY what I need but it sounds like there is a lot of trouble with it. Will there be an update soon? Or is there another , similar mod that is more up to date.
  11. Thanks for taking the time to explain that in detail. I think i got it installed, kicking the tires now. Thanks a lot for typing that all out, very helpful. Little confused about the permissions. Does "delete location" mean they can delete ALL locations? Does update location mean they can update ALL locations? Be nice if there was more information , like the actual address, maybe room for comments etc. (maybe there is and I'm just not seeing it) Neat app.
  12. really ? you use hooks to install emotions? I tried that , dont see any new hooks. I tried the emoticon import and i get: Warning: fopen(/home/detroitg/public_html/public/style_emoticons/default/fool.gif) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/detroitg/public_html/admin/applications/core/modules_admin/posts/emoticons.php on line 257 about 100 lines of similar errors to the above.
  13. I read through to about page 15 of the comments hoping to find the answer witout having to ask.. but started going blind around there and am just going to have to ask. How do i actually install this? I copied the files over, (which seemed to go fine) I login to the admin CP , click on "my apps" and its not listed. I also read something about needing a google API which, I found were you get one from on google, but have no clue were I would put it. What am I doing wrong?
  14. When it says to install this just "upload the files to your forums directory" does that mean I'm supposed to OVERWRITE my admin and public folders? Seems like that would screw things up. Sorry for the noob question.
  15. Differentiating Forums from "blogs/diaries" needs to stay on point, otherwise, I'm afraid IPB will just become irrelevant. Facebook will win that battle.
