  1. I'm still waiting for reports from the various members affected, but one has already confirmed that he's on an iPad Air original that he admits is older than he is (he's joking), and is on iOS 12. The others have already made complaints about having to upgrade their hardware, so I suspect we're looking at old hardware that's outlasted support with no iOS updates. I was kind of hoping there was a simple way to get them working again to quieten them down. They're kind of lucky that their hardware has lasted as long as it has, but they don't see it like that, just more expense. I said I'd ask. I think it's a case of not wanting to accept that tech has moved on for the most part, and they can't see why it was working yesterday morning, but not today, and their devices haven't changed. I'm pretty sure I only know a tenth of a fraction of a soupçon, but I know it's a bit more involved than an IMG tag that displays images these days. My old XP laptop that I use for printing on an out-of-date ALPS printer won't post to the forum either, but I don't need it to, so I'm not complaining personally 😉 We don't use CloudFlare, so that's off the menu. Mike.
  2. We upgraded yesterday afternoon to 4.7.8 from the previous version, and since then a lot of our members with older iOS versions, particularly older iPads are unable to post or see pics. Is there a definitive guide to the cut-off version for iOS, iPadOS and maybe even other OSes? Most of the folks with older devices tend to be a bit less technically minded, or unable or unwilling to pay out for newer devices, so it's a tricky issue for us forum owners, and it requires a bit of tact due to the costs involved for the members to continue to use the forum. Mike.
  3. Hi Jim, I've a feeling it's fixed now, and I've taken the precaution of buying a new "back to top" button plug-in from the Marketplace, as the old free button was one of the disabled plug-ins, and was no longer being updated by the author. I still find it odd that it's not a standard feature of the software, as everyone hates scrolling back to the top 😴 Mike.
  4. It seems like this happens a lot, judging by the number of posts in the "similar content" side pane. I used the Recovery Mode, and it got the software working again, but it was very slow and prone to issues for a while there. There was a Cache error coming up when it returned, so I went to the relevant page, where both the cache options were un-ticked. I ticked the No Cache option, and saved it. It told me to download a new constants.php file, so I did and re-uploaded it to the server. The error persisted despite this, and happened 3-4 times, so I ended up leaving my desk in frustration to do something else after a while. When I came back and logged back into the ACP, the warning had gone and the forum seemed OK. Seems a bit rustic for such a prominent piece of software, and a more simplified method of reaching the Recovery option would be useful for less savvy users. I'm still not sure what was causing the issue, but the restore switched off three plug-ins, so I'll go back and look at those to see if they were the cause of the problem. Mike.
  5. I've just run the update to the latest version, and on exit from the installer, when I selected "Visit Community", just just showed the bog-standard error message: An error occurred (500 Error) We're sorry, but a temporary technical error has occurred which means we cannot display this site right now. You can try again by clicking the button below, or try again later. I can't get into the admin panel either, even after rebooting the server, so I'm effectively locked out of the site. I need help as a matter of urgency. Mike.
  6. Hi Jim, It's a blooming mystery to all concerned, and at this moment, I'm just happy that it's gone away. In the meantime, Hosting Support (Host4Web) have converted the rest of the tables to InnoDB from MyISAM, so we're running on a full set now. With one exception. There's a table in there that's formatted in BLACKHOLE with zero entries, and that's tricking your Support tool into telling me we still have non InnoDB tables. I've added some info below, and am wondering if it has any relevance, needs fixing, or can be deleted? As it's ibf_core_log could it explain why our logs never seem to record any problems? Name: ibf_core_log Rows 0 Type: BLACKHOLE Collation: utf8mb4_unicode_ci Overhead: unknown If you can let me know the answer to that, and whether it's needed, I'll get it resolved from my end with a bit of luck 🙂 TIA Mike.
  7. Hi Jim, The weirdest of weird things is that as soon as I managed to post a message on the forum to tell everyone it's bust, it started to behave better. I'll update our login details and see how things go for an hour or two. I've not tried any admin-related things since, so don't know if that's working for me or not. Does seem really strange - the fact that it was all fine earlier was another thing that made me wonder, but I put that down to expiry of caches and that sort of thing. Thanks for the quick replies in the meantime 👍 Mike.
  8. Hi guys, Yesterday I converted most of our tables in the DB to InnoDB at the suggestion of your help pages, and everything seemed OK. Today I logged in and did a bit of Admin-type stuff as you do, and everything was normal. Then I went to the Reports and tried to delete a post that had been made six time in error (possibly an initial symptom of what's to come?), and it wouldn't work. I got a 500 error. From that moment on, the forum has been all over the place, looking weird, buttons in the wrong places, buttons not working, and headers duplicating, with the CSS totally out the window at times. I've a feeling that it's a corruption to the DB somewhere along the line, but I don't know what to do in order to fix it or who can help, so I'm sat here panicking and wishing I'd never started it. 😪 I made one attempt to repair a random table, which returned with a message to the effect of "InnoDB doesn't support repair", which was a bit of a shock. I think we're going to need someone like a sys admin to go over our DB and fix it, but I'm hoping that you might be able to give us some ideas before it starts costing us lots of money. We've got a bit of a cash float, but it's not a huge one. I'm terrified of losing 14+ years of posts, wisdom and nonsense. 🤮 I'm desperate, and the forum is unusable as it stands, so if you can give it some prompt attention, I'll be appreciative 🙂 TIA Mike.
  9. Bloomin' Americans!!! 😄 I've got bigger problems now, so I'll start up a new thread and try to forget this one ever existed. 😊
  10. Hi all, Late last week we started getting the warning banners in our ACP that our Support payment was due, which was followed up by an email order No. offering renewal for the usual price, but with the bracketed date as follows: (Expires: 02/06/2022) Eh? Are you collecting renewals 5 months early, or is there an error in our entry? I don't know which is right, as I have the world's worst memory, so I'm looking for some guidance. Either correction of the database so our entry matches the date of the alert, or defer the alerts until the real renewal date. We've had these out-of-sync alerts now for 2 years, as I found the screenshot from last year while I was saving one off for this year too. i was going to post the screenshot, but as the support forum is now public, I'm not sure I want details of my forum's back-end visible to all. Is it limited to members, or visible to the whole world? best, Mike.
