  1. That is a good idea. It will also make it less confusing for members.
  2. The email address error is because you are using free email accounts which they have disabled. Probably because of spam. You will need to use a non free account. Maybe one that you have with your web site.
  3. I had forgotten about that. Maybe it is more of the idea that someone I do not know took it over. And because I do not know him I do not know what he will do with the mod. I have seen mods and even companies taken over or bought out that has resulted in a very bad experience. Eventually ending the company and mod. So I guess deep down I might be scared that will happen to this mod. I want to have a shoutbox long into the future. I do not want to see it go away or go down hill as I have seen with so many other mods. I was just thinking of how I would feel if someone else took it over. I do not think I would feel so hurt if Andy took it over. I have not seen him in forever. Last I heard he was working on the iarcade with Collin.
  4. Well that I can understand. Any way as stated I am more upset that Michael is not doing the IP.shoutbox. If Michael charged 15 for it I would pay it in a heart beat. I guess I just need to get used to the idea that some one else is updating this mod. But it is going to take time for me to feel comfortable enough to pay.
  5. Ok so I confused people with out meaning to.

  6. My intention was not to flame Jlogica. I kept posting about it as people kept asking me questions about it. I personally do not mind being charged for mods. Specially if they are quality work. In fact if I did end up switching to vb the mods I want do cost. I am upset that he is charging for some thing some one else made. If he scrapped the old code and started fresh I would pay for it with no issues.
  7. I think people are mis reading what I am saying. I may have mentioned the fact it is a paid mod but that is not way I am upset. I would be glad to pay for a mod and have done so. However I do not like the idea that someone else started it. If JLogica scrapped the old code and created it with all his own code. I would not have an issue paying for it. The other reason that has me upset is I considered the old developer one of the best developers on the planet or in some cases the best for ips. It is very upsetting that he is no longer developing it. Although I understand that he no longer has time to do it. Any way I didn't want to post in here in the first place as I knew this would happen and people would take it wrong.
  8. Well ok I posted in that thread. Go ahead and check it out.
  9. I was told to let you know about my concerns with this new shoutbox. As some people on here already know I am not happy about the changes to the shoutbox. I was actually told to post in this topic because of my concerns over this new shoutbox. I do not have the skills to make a shoutbox of my own. However I did try but I was using existing things that are built into the ipb software. such as using the status update to replace the shoutbox. As was pointed out this is not ideal and has many problems. My issues with this new version are ones that have actually been mentioned by other members in the comments in the market place. First issue you are charging for work some one else did. That to me is like stealing. It would be is if I took the ips software it self and started selling it with only making minor changes. Second the free version is ioncubed, which makes making mods for it impossible. Third the screen shots need updated. As of right now I am staying with the older version.
  10. You most be confused if you think I am complaining. There has been no complaining from me yet. Explaining yes but not complaining. Also why would I want the shoutbox to be a status update box? All I mentioned was I was trying to make an alternative to the shoutbox because the current one is being messed up by a new developer and I mentioned it in this topic as I am trying to use the status updates because I am not a programmer and do not know how to make my own. I need to start some where or with some thing to make my own shoutbox. if this gets added to the status updates, which I do feel is a good idea it will cause me problems with using the status updates as a shoutbox. If I knew how I would create my own shoutbox with out the need to use some thing that already exists. However I do not.
  11. Any way liking status is something I want and using the status updates as a shoutbox is not ideal. I am aware of that. But Michael stopped making the IP.shoutbox. The new guy who took it over is distroying it. So it is either that or switch to vbulletin or hopefully someone better takes over the ip.shoutbox.
  12. That mod does not replace the shoutbox with status updates it just takes status updates and places them in the shoutbox. If you remember some time back the status update block on this site had the ability to type directly to it, making it function as a shoutbox. This ability is what I want to bring back. I want to do this because the guy who took over the shoutbox is messing it up big time.
  13. Ah well it might be good if it was updated. Right now I am working on my own little mod that will turn the status updates into a shoutbox. It used to kind of work like a shoutbox on this site for a while so with the ip.shoutbox being a ruined by the new developer I thought I should use the status updates as a shoutbox.
  14. I think when the status updates first came out you could like them but for what ever reason that was removed.
  15. I have gotten very little to no spam in the past few months. After upgrading to 3.3 the spam pretty much stopped except for the spam that got bad in the reports before I turned that off to guests. I am also not even using the spam protection that is offered in the latest version.
