Ok at moment pages is not beening provided with extra tools example in content we had extra files that would allow us to use page outside the forum root folder so www.domain.com = pages www.domain.com/forum = forum now understand might little different because forum is now on its own but sure we can get simple index.php allow the end user custom it so have pages and download and does same example above.

You can easily accomplish this by doing the following:

  1. Install (or move) your IPS4 installation to the root directory
  2. In AdminCP, under System > Site Features > Applications, click the Star next to "Pages" to set it as the default app
  3. Done!

Your forums will still work under http://www.site.com/forums (because forums is no longer default) and your root domain will automatically show the pages app. :)

That if want pages be inside the forum what is not what said ! if look at 3.4.x i could have domain.com/forum and forum loads or if when domain.com content would load so both really default.

You can turn off the board wrapper in your pages app so that it's not included when you load domain.com. This gives you full control over how it looks... it doesn't have to look anything like the forum skin.

Ok believe don't understand the question in 3.4.x ok we added content into following place admin/applications_addon unless you played around settings ok content would be everyday app show the following www.domain.com/forum/pages/index.php now in content download folder you open it had extra files one called Tools in there is another index.php is allowed you run content outside root forum folder.

So this example would be www.domain.com would have its own index.php that would pull in all content items and my best example live forum is prideofnottingham.co.uk now in 3.4.x had make few changes know as advanced settings this makes my live example do what i need in 4.0.x, use ipb wrapper as standard but making pages default on domain.com and forum default on domain.com/forum again my live example shows you that.

Here's what I set up:

https://www.sinisterorigins.com/

On that site, the "Pages" app is loading by default (I moved my IPS4 installation to the root folder).

When I click on "Forums" at the top, I am brought to https://www.sinisterorigins.com/forums/, which loads the forums app.

This matches the behavior of the site you mentioned (prideofnottingham.co.uk).

You have to have "Friendly URLs" turned on to get this behavior to work correctly.

Unfortunately, I am not able to find an answer on that.

URL rewriting attempts to direct forums.domain.com to a physical forums folder (which doesn't exist).

It is worth mentioning that I am running on an IIS8.5 box.. not sure if this would be easier on a Linux/Apache box.

Someone from IPS might have a better answer than me. :)

OK now that I can finally reply.  I will translate when you get ip.content from the client area (just the application) it will come with a few file folders one of them is "tools" in this folder there is another index.php.  This index.php will allow you to run your forums in a forums directory. And use ip.content in the root dir. This way if you have forums.domain.com you can still use it.

This is also something I am looking into doing too
