Tournaments

This is currently not totally compatible beyond ip.board 3.4.7. If you upgrade to 3.4.8 it is going to add paragraph html tags to titles, descriptions, etc... On the public end you won't notice it, but they're there. Also, some formatting in this description was ruined by this site's upgrading to 4.x.

This application is designed for those who want to run tournaments on their site. It is not for the actual gaming itself to take palce through the app in any way, but rather for your members to create and join teams, sign up for tournaments, submit scores of the matches which take place somewhere else, and then the system keeps track of it all and declares the winning team once the tournament is completed.

Warning: For older versions, due to a bug in ip.board you may need to have your default skin be the normal default ip.board skin when installing this or it won't install the templates.

Here are some of the many features: [*]Create categories. [*]Unlimited number of subcategories. [*]Create tournaments which fit into the categories. [*]A count of open tournaments in each category is kept. [*]Create teams (max teams per member is set in the ACP). [*]The team creator determines how many members should be on his or her team, approves or declines applications to the team, and can kick people off of the team. [*]Teams join tournaments which allow teams with their number of members. there are numerous settings on the tournament form to allow for various combinations of teams. [*]Tournaments are created in the ACP. The one who creates the tournament can invite teams to it on the public side. Anyone with access to this app in the ACP could edit the tournament. [*]brackets- single and double elimination brackets are one type of tournament. You can create a 4, 8, 16, 32, 64 or 128 team/member tournament at this point and add byes if you don't have the correct number of participants wanting to join. [*]ladders- manual move teams on a ladder absed on their performance orL base it automatically on wins, on a simple formula, on ELO ratings (more complicated and precise), etc... [*]round robin- each team plays each other team x number of times and the team with the best record wins that tournament. [*]Create an invite only tournament. [*]Use a standalone point system with the system. Then you can allow team leaders to charge points to join their team. Then those team points are kept separately and can be used to join tournaments which cost points to join. Points can also be obtained in various ways. For individual points with the standalone system you can gain more poitns by commenting. With the internal team points system you can gain some by winning matches or tournaments. [*]There are many many settings in the ACP. Especially on tournament forms. Be careful with them as there are so many which could interfere with a team's ability to put new memebrs on their teams while involved in a tournament. [*]Upload logos for categories, tournaments, and teams. [*]Both team and individual style tournaments. [*]1v1 Battle System [*]Leaderboards [*]Career Ranking System [*]Much more.
Please Note: This is a first release and some things will improve over time. The bracket skinning will be improved, some things will behave differently, co-leader functionality will be added, ability for ties/draws, disputing methods, and more overall management of various areas.

Also: Keep in mind this has not been tested in strict PHP/MySQL environments. At some point I will fix issues which could thus allow for it to run smooth in those various setups, but be aware that I am not speaking as to how well it would currently do in those environments.

Just a note. I updated it to have the link to Becca's icons in the readme. Also, I'll try to do some screenshots later today, but I have to go for a while now. I also really need to make some help files or some text faq file or something because this app has soem features which may not be so obvious.

Without a demo or screens I don't know how many will be guinea pigs, but I just have no time until later today. Also, if I list every feature it will seem much more large (as it is).

Read above post..............................

This was released for those who already know they're buying it until I have time to add in the screens.

No problem. Thanks. I tried extremely hard to catch all bugs, so hopefully it goes smoothly for a first release. Just post any suggestions in here because for this type of app there are many ways to do it and so some features may ened to be done differently depending on what the majority want. Like you may want certain parts done in the ACP or publicly which are only done the reverse way. I just have to see what the majority want.

Oh, BV remidned me... you have to have your default skin be the normal default ip0.board skin or the templates won't install. that is a bug of ip.board, not me. I don't know why they don't patch it, as thats eems like a big deal to me. Unless maybe there;'s some workaround I could be doing. I shouldn't have to go figure out what their bug is though.

There's a lot which can be changed or added in the future. It just had to be released for whoeverr wants it as it is for now, though, because it's loaded in the features it does have and took 4 months to do so aat some point it has t =o be reelased and more be added later on.

One part that is a bit... not so ideal right now is if you want to set times for the teams yourself you have to do it in a bit of an awkward way. Like for brackets and round robin you have to enter a time and it then schedules ALL for that time and then you would have to edit them one at a time to change them.

So bottom line the current way this app is... is more for those who want to do ladders or who aren't going to ahve the times be too strictyly enforced. If yuo allow members to change the match times it will work better. If you want to force times on them, it's more time consuming to get right.

So depending on what your needs are some may want to wait and some may want it now or at least temporarily use it as it is now until updated. It's loaded with featues, but some people need ones that others don't as badly need.

Nice work mate, installed smoothly. Bit ominous with all the options to set up, but that means depth of choices. My gaming community has so many options to use this with its really going to enhance our event nights.

at $49 it is a bargain as well for what it delivers and what it can add in terms of participation for any community

Yeah, when I uploaded it was like wow, look at all the options, but I spoke with Mod and he said he will be coming out with a set-up guide or how to guide at some point, but well worth the money and investment. Thanks Mod!!

While I definitely want the mod and said I would get it upon initial release, it is really hard to put $50 down on a product site-unseen. If you can get your screenshots up, I'll say that there is a 99% chance of you being able to add one purchase and a definite renewal to your stats (from me).

Back to the topic, is it possible to have a 1v1 ladder on this app or is it just team based (min. of 4 players per team)?

I definitely appreciate the work, keep it up!

In regards to the default skin issuie, is it a bug where the default skin needs to be skin id 1 or just an unmodded stock skin. I currently use a default stock skin that we just recolored. Will this cause a problem?

If there is a bug have you put it in IP.Tracker so they know?

http://community.inv...ices-messed-up/

as long as the IPB default skin has a key within the database, the issue doesn't exist .. so you can run any skin you wish as the default skin, just make sure after your done making changes that the default IPB skin didn't loose its key within the database (as it uses it for all template installations no matter what theme you have set as default), and if it did, just readd it manually .. there is a patch posted in the tracker, but I don't think it works that well .. I find its better to just check/modify that key manually per installation until they resolve that issue

Thanks for the information on that. I never knew for sure what the issue even was.

I'll post screenshots some time tonight. I'm busy for the next few hours. I'm not sure of a good way of having a demo though. I guess I would need to make a site specifically for it and then as far as ACP, I will just have to explain a lot of that portion since it's not good to be having a lot of people in an ACP on a test install.

Attack, yes you can do 1v1. You just have to create a team, anyway, and have it be a 1 memebr team. If i had done it where you just join based solely on your username it would be less ideal coding-wise because of certain areas.

First of all thanks for the tournament system mmodding!

But i have a little problem.

When i try to create a tournament it says an error message "You selected too early of a tournament finish time"

I dont understand why i get that message, because i'll set my tournament finish time later as the registration and start time.

You could see the error message on a screenshot below on the links, and my tournament setup.

Problem Number 2.

How can i access the tournament menu tab, i installed the mod successful, but when i press on the menu tab "tournaments" it only gives me a error.

how could my users manually join the tournaments from the site.

Regards.

Hello,

One thing that I'd like to see is the ability to create a team based on an event. And then for that event, set up in the ACP how many people are allowed per team.

So rather than having the create a team first, someone browses the tournaments and then creates a team in that tournament. I think that'll take care of having to set a number of teams someone can be a part of, since you'll only be allowed to be on 1 team per event, and in the long run allowing more flexibility of numbers for how many people on teams based on the tournament.

I hope that makes sense. haha Let me know if it doesn't.

Hey - I just bought but am wondering what the difference is between the two downloads?

One is slightly larger than the other.

Have you set-up permissions from the systems tab in the acp?
