Upgrade from IP. 3.4.x to IPS4.0 I am bringing this back again seeing there are still many that want to know how to upgrade. This is an updated version from my original post where the upgrade is explained from start to finish. So you think you are ready to take the plunge and try a test install / upgrade from your current IP Board to the current IPS4.0 beta and later to the final release. Well we will see. {Comment} The following steps are with the assumption you have already created a test install of your current board and made all the preparations leaving your current live board intact. If Not then see the following article. Creating a Duplicate Local Test board from y…

It's been suggested before to enable full SSL support for the AdminCP, but I'd like to take things a step further with my own suggestion. I would like to have the option to enable SSL everywhere on IP.Board. Not just on login pages, not just the ACP, but give users the option to use SSL globally, similar to the manner sites like Facebook do. Users would be able change this setting through their account settings, giving them the option to enable or disable global SSL this way, but still letting the admin force SSL on login pages. SSL would first need to be enabled and set up by the boards administrator, of course.

IPS Sitemap generator using special database table source for refreshing - core_sitemap. Primary search engine source of sitemap is url https://example.com/sitemap.php which is list of sub-sitemap files. You can see list of that files proceed for this link. Each of that file contain no more than 1000 urls to specail pages (profile status, topic (without number of pages or comment) and other elements, with supported sitemap as core extension). One of our case is forum with more than 100k topics, more than 4.2kk posts and more than 6kk users. So with simply math we have 5214 sitemap files (you can simply count number of that files with command select cou…

Invision Community 4.6 brings a brand new achievements system which overhauls the ranks system along with adding the ability to earn points which translates into a higher rank via rules. As part of the clean-up, we removed the custom member title from the author section of the post as there's a limit to how much information we can show comfortably! Of course, some communities used custom member titles and wish to continue using them. Fortunately it's easy enough to get them back. Step 1: Log into the ACP and navigate to Members > Profiles > Profile Fields Step 2: You will see a group called "Retained", inside is a new custom field called "Member Titl…

As you may have noticed, we've been doing a lot of work to prepare Invision Community to use PHP8 as the minimum version. If you are an Invision Community Cloud client, then you do not need to worry about any of this, and can happily click out of this topic. For those who host Invision Community on their own servers, then please read on. PHP7 is now end of life and from November, PHP will no longer offer security updates. PHP8 is a major update which brings many changes including how errors are either logged and means that what was a harmless notice or log entry is now a fatal error which Invision Community cannot capture. We have introduced the applic…

Hi all, We have a problem on our phorum - some of the pictures taken with an iPhone and uploaded directly, are disoriented. now I read the thread attached. Is there a proper intuitive solution to this problem where I don't need to educate members? Thanks.

I haven't setup a 4.0 testing site yet and wanted to find out if site-wide SSL was going to be an option 4.0. Right now, using 3.4.6, I have a redirect in my .htaccess file to make sure that everyone is redirected to https when they come to my forum. There was a thread on the forum which outlined how to setup full SSL using the .htaccess file. I know there is an option to use SSL when signing up, etc. in 3.4.x Does anyone know if full SSL is an option in 4.0? If not, I hope IPS adds this feature.

If a member uses Facebook to login, what information should it bring over from Facebook? Should it carry over their birthdate, location, ect? Same question for Google+, Twitter, ect. Also, is there anyway to tell what members signed up using Google+, Facebook, ect? Thanks!

Invision Community 4.7.2 now features a third party application and plug-ins PHP 8 compatibility scanner. Please read this post as you may find applications of plugins disabled after upgrading. Why do we need this? The underlying programming language that Invision Community uses is PHP. The latest version, PHP 8 was released in November 2020 and features many breaking changes and incompatibilities that are not backwards compatible. Some of these changes mean that what was a harmless silent notice, is now a fatal error which would mean that if you upgrade with incompatible code, your community would throw a fatal error which results in either a white screen, or…

Has anyone here implemented Google Adsense Auto Ads? Might be too early to tell if it is working well because it seems to have just been introduced this week, but just curious on thoughts. https://adsense.googleblog.com/2018/02/introducing-adsense-auto-ads.html

After a pretty long battle, I've got my content into IPS4 in a subfolder off my domain, and once all the background processes are complete and I've done some more testing and playing about, I think I'm ready to commit to it for my community. However, earlier I tried to do something similar and it caused all kinds of chaos, so it sounds best to check here first. I know that there's a line for the site location in the config.php file which I can edit easily enough, but I'm guessing there's some more location based elements I need to change either in files or in the SQL for it to work. Can anyone provide a quick list of what needs to be changed, where and when (i.e. before o…

Hello, I just had my webaster to enable PHP 8 for the community. We got an error 500 after that. We enabled 8.0 for WordPress and another domain in the same server and all went smoothly. It didn't work on Invision Community. We've reversed the installation to the previous php version and works fine again. I need help on this. Thanks

I'm curious to know why information regarding certain plugins was not checked before the upgrade began. I have two applications that have now been 'locked' because of some PHP 8 incompatibilities. My site is now completely crippled because the app that is locked is the mainstay of the site. As it stands my site is now useless. Had the below warning appeared prior to upgrade I would not have proceeded.

I would like to know if IPS 4 can be run with MariaDB XtraDB (InnoDB drop-in) and if it can result in signifcant better performance, considering that files can be stored in the DB. I have found some old topics regarding InnoDB with IPS 3.4 and the search limitations. Sphinx was a must. But I guess that in the current development stage, XtraDB (and InnoDB) offers search capability.

We have received a report from Google that we are in violation of their adsense policies by displaying ads on certain pages without content. the example URL given was the login page but I assume other pages without 'valuable content' also apply. We are using the standard advertisement option within IPB. I have asked IPB support how to exclude ads on the non-relevant pages as we do use the ads to fund our VPS hosting and IPB renewals but the answer was "There is no way in which to stop these from appearing on those pages at the present time". We have a total of 4 ads setup in the advertisements section of ACP. Matched Content : set to custom lo…

Mandrill just announced it will no longer be a free service, and all functionality will be migrating to a MailChimp add-on. They sent this communication to current users of the Mandrill service: Since Mandrill will no longer be a free option for IPS users, I think it would be beneficial to also support other competing platforms. SendGrid in particular has the same feature set and better pricing. IPS users should be given a choice. Since this change is fast approaching, would the Invision team give priority to this matter? What are everyone's thoughts on the matter?

Hello, from my point of view the Emoji support should be included in the standard product. Especially on mobile devices the users are used to use the standard emojis instead of opening a new window for ipb smilies.

I installed my Forums without utf8mb4, thats pain in the ass. There are several errors resulting in inconstistent Datebase-Tables, empty Threads etc. The Emojis-Fix from 4.0.8 only fixes the Emojis ... How can i reconvert Everything to utf8mb4 ??? As i see there is no Converter for IPS4.
